Waiters provide bar service for sunbathers looking to cool off with an icy drink or frozen cocktail, and a variety of music is played throughout the day. The Serenity deck on Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Carnival Panorama also has a chopped salad station that serves up basic and specialty salads on sea days, free of charge. Saga Cruises, a British boutique cruise line, offers small-ship sailings exclusively to passengers over 50 years of age. While the kids are enjoying the multitude of fun things onboard, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take in a great show or participate in one of the many game shows happening during your time on the ship.
Best Adults-Only Cruise Ship Sun Decks
Regent's five ships (with a sixth launching in 2023), range in size from 490 to 750 passengers. Viking Ocean cruise ships are all identical, each carrying 930 adult passengers; all cabins offer private balconies. Viking Expedition ships carry 378 adult passengers, and its river ships across the globe all carry fewer than 200 passengers. While adults-only cruises offer a serene and sophisticated atmosphere, they may not suit everyone. Passengers who enjoy traveling with children or prefer a more family-friendly environment may find adults-only cruises less appealing. Additionally, some adults-only cruises may have limited entertainment options compared to family-oriented cruises.

Adults-Only Cruises That Aren’t Quite All-Inclusive
While not strictly adults-only in theory, in practice, Silversea cruises are essentially high-end cruises for adults. The perfect example of what sparked the new adult-only cruise trend is Carnival’s Serenity Adult-Only Retreat. While Carnival is also a family-friendly cruise line, it’s this kind of 21+ retreats that have proven immensely popular among grown-up passengers. You’ll still be at the same ship as the kids, but while they’re participating in a themed event or other kids’ activity, you’ll be swaying in a hammock, sitting at the bar or simply lazing in a sunbed. U by Uniworld has numerous river ships, all of which offer unique experiences and elegant spaces. Simply called The A and The B, these ships can accommodate 120 passengers.
Serenity Bar
Additionally, take advantage of onboard amenities like spa treatments, quiet lounges, and adults-only areas to unwind and recharge. While most cruise lines still focus on offering family-friendly cruises, there are some that have pioneered adult-only cruises. Their ships are either entirely kid-free or at least their (lack of) kid-friendly facilities keep away traveling families. Those seeking a quiet moment in the sun will certainly appreciate MSC’s Top 18 Sun Deck area, which is an adults-only deck.

If you’re into eating healthy and staying fit, you’ll have no problem keeping up your healthy lifestyle on the ship. Get in a good workout at the fitness center, where you’ll also have the opportunity to join in on an assortment of fun and energetic fitness classes. At the Skybox Sports Bar onboard, you can quench your thirst while watching a game, get the latest sports news and headlines, and maybe even play a few sports games with fellow guests. In the afternoon, it usually opens up more as people head to lunch and for a nap. The Serenity Area is also a great place to spend time in the evening with the soft music and mood lighting. Alternatively, the Cloud 9 Spa Thermal Suite offers ultimate relaxation with its steam baths, dry heat rooms and other climate-controlled areas.
Cutting-edge amenities range from a test kitchen to the world’s largest daybed at sea to a fancy nightclub. Passes are available for purchase for both half-day and full-day access, starting at $40 for the entire day. The Sanctuary is available on all of Princess’ cruise ships except for Ocean Princess and Pacific Princess. "Bare Necessities Travel" offers adult only cruises (and you won't need much luggage either,LOL). On MSC World Europa, enjoy access to a solarium with comfortable shaded sun beds and private pool at the aft of the ship on Deck 18, in addition to a Top 20 Exclusive Solarium. Pick a side of the ship you want to be on and lounge on this lounge beds.
There are tastings of local wines guided by a sommelier, cooking classes and guest lectures. Curated libraries provide the opportunity to read up on everything and anything you’d like. It’s not only about nourishing your intellect, creativity and spirit, though. You can also pamper your body at the on-board fitness center and spa, a sanctuary of typical Nordic wellness featuring a sauna, various pools and baths, and even a snow grotto. Available on MSC Divina, MSC Fantasia, MSC Splendid and MSC Preziosa, guests can enjoy Top 18 complimentary during their cruise.

With so much onboard space dedicated to kids, Disney Cruise Line didn’t forget to include an adults-only area. The Quiet Cove is an oasis for adult relaxation and features a sleek pool surrounded by lounge chairs. Adults will also appreciate access to Quiet Cove’s bar when looking to enjoy a poolside cocktail. The Virgin Voyages fleet consists of four ships, each catering to adults 18 years and older. The maiden ship, the Scarlet Lady is a high-end, ultra-modern cruise ship that can accommodate up to 2,770 passengers and has a strong focus on the body and mind.
Azamara Luxury Cruises
After a fun night out with your sweetheart, you might want to refresh and rejuvenate the next day. Carnival’s Cloud 9 Spa Thermal Suites are zones dedicated to relaxing — no kids allowed! Each zone is carefully designed by Carnival’s master climate artists in order to find the perfect relaxing temperature. Don a soft-cotton robe and relax in the dry heat of the Laconium or Tepidarium, or opt for the soothing moisture or the Oriental or Aroma Steam baths. While Posh is free for Villa suite passengers, Haven suite cruisers on Norwegian's newest ships will have to pay the standard rates to gain access to Vibe.
Regardless of the ship, though, the Serenity area has a dedicated bar, upgraded loungers, and a water feature (a pool, hot tub, or both). Lucky for adults, away from all the noise is Royal Caribbean’s famous Solarium, which is an adults-only area that has pools, hot tubs, lounge chairs and daybeds. The biggest ships in Quantum and Oasis class have the largest Solariums in the fleet and include an attached Solarium Bistro. These areas rival even the poshest spas with cascading pools, lush greenery and lagoons. Meanwhile, MSC Seaside touts a glamorous, 16-and-older South Beach pool and sun deck (dubbed Sunset Beach pool and sun deck on Seaview), tucked away at the back of the ship on Deck 7. Although there are no hot tubs on the South Beach sun deck, loungers do have access to a bar as well as a gelateria and creperie for ice cream, waffles and crepes.
The parents decided to party every night and just leave them to themselves. It broke our hearts seeing these kids being left like that; however, we did run into alot of families who stayed together as families. Each of our ships is a unique experience — check the features and find out which ship is right for you. MSC World Europa was the first ship in the MSC Cruises' fleet to create an adults-only "district" which includes the Zen Pool on Deck 18.
Made to cruise Europe’s most iconic rivers, they’re not just a floating boutique hotel, but also a water taxi, yoga studio, nightclub, restaurant and bar. While originally a millennial-only cruise line, U by Uniworld changed its age restrictions in 2018 and now offers river cruises in Europe to adults of all ages. They still focus heavily on younger adults in their branding and marketing, though, which sets them apart from other river cruise lines. Although not technically adult-only, this aft pool requires guests to be 14 years and older. Adjacent to the pool is a bar and pizza cafe, so you can soak in the sun while indulging in a cocktail and slice of pizza. This is a great space for cruisers looking to read a book, relax in a sun lounger or even take a nap.
With this spectacular variety of environments to suit your needs, you’ll find the ultimate in comfort like never before. Because of that, adults-only cruises also tend to be a bit more luxurious than regular ones, with bigger/fancier cabins and an emphasis on service. Since there’s no additional fee to use the Serenity Area, it can get crowded on sea days. Especially in the morning, it can be hard to find a lounger and definitely hard to find a clamshell on sea days. Thankfully, there seems to be fewer chair hogs/savers in the Serenity Area than in other areas of the ship.
